Free event for kids and families at EQT Rec Center on June 27
PITTSBURGH – WQED is excited to continue to build a Learning Neighborhood in Greene County, with the launch of an engagement space and partnership with the EQT Rec Center, thanks to the generous support of the EQT Foundation. The Summer Sports Exploration event will be held on Tuesday, June 27, from 5:45pm to 8:00pm at the EQT Rec Center. Registration and additional information is available at bit.ly/kossummersports.
The free kickoff event will provide kids and their families the chance to learn about and try new sports such as pickleball, bocce, and flag football, and includes free-flowing lessons, drills, and games. Families will have the opportunity to make a healthy snack together while they explore the new Learning Neighborhood engagement space.
“Learning can happen anywhere at any time, and by creating this new Learning Neighborhood space at the EQT REC Center, we are helping to meet children and families where they are, while providing an engaging learning experience with PBS-themed characters and story lines,” said Ellen Rossi, President of the EQT Foundation. “EQT is honored to work with our community partners like WQED, the EQT REC Center and P3R to help bring experiences like this to the communities where we live and work.”
“The EQT REC Center is always looking for ways to expand children’s learning and community events in the surrounding areas,” said Alyssa Whitford, General Manager of EQT Rec Center. “We are so excited to partner with Liz [Kostandinu] and WQED to bring more interactive and positive engagement here in our children’s program. We hope to continue creating a fun and safe space for all the children in the surrounding communities however we can.”
As part of the statewide partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Learning at Home is a collaboration of the seven PBS stations in the Pennsylvania commonwealth. Through the partnership, WQED supports the learning needs of children and families throughout the region, and recognizes that learning occurs everywhere: at home, at school, and in the community.
