Fiddlesticks Summer Adventure: Woodland Hills

Fiddlesticks travels to Woodland Hills this summer for a new adventure with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Meet Fiddlesticks, the PSO’s seven-foot tall, cuddly feline friend who loves to dance, clap, and celebrate music with his friends in the neighborhood. Recommended for families with children ages 3 to 8 and their families, this program invites friends of Fiddlesticks new and old to sing, dance, and discover the magic of music together.
Tickets are free with advanced registration.

Science at Play at PPG Paints Arena
PPG and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation are hosting our sixth annual Science at Play event on Tuesday, July 14th at PPG Paints Arena. Local Pittsburgh families are welcome to join us on the arena floor for this year’s Science Fair!
Science at Play targets children ages 5-12 for a free-to-attend science fair on the PPG Paints Arena floor, featuring a wide variety of vendors promoting strong STEM education in our community. We’d love for the opportunity to be shared amongst your organization and network for anyone that may be interested in attending!

Brighton Heights Book Fair at Legion Park
The Brighton Heights Citizens Federation is excited to announce the first-ever Brighton Heights Book Fair, taking place Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Legion Park. The free community event will celebrate reading, literacy, and neighborhood connections for book lovers of all ages.
The inaugural fair will feature a large community book swap, where attendees are encouraged to bring a book, leave a book. Separate swap tables will be available for both children’s and adult books.
Families can enjoy a dedicated Kids Zone with hands-on activities, while readers can explore more than 20 community resource tables, local vendors, and literary organizations. Among the featured vendors will be Raven’s Quill, a local romantasy-themed mobile bookstore.
The event will also showcase local authors, offer chances to win raffle prizes, and provide opportunities to connect with fellow readers throughout the day. At 1 p.m., attendees are invited to participate in One Book: A Brighton Heights Greater Book Club Discussion.
The Brighton Heights Book Fair is free and open to the public. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and help launch what organizers hope will become a cherished neighborhood tradition.

Kindergarten Here I Come at The Children’s Museum
Join us for Kindergarten, Here I Come!, our annual kindergarten readiness event. Rising kindergarteners and their families can visit the museum, explore arts and making activities, ride a school bus, gather resources from partner organizations and more.
This event is FREE for rising kindergarten students plus one accompanying caregiver.
Some activities that are often offered at Kindergarten…Here I Come:
- Climb aboard a real school bus and meet a real crossing guard
- Try readiness skills activities such as shoelace tying
- Enjoy back-to-school giveaways – while supplies last
- Get valuable resources for parents on topics such as vaccinations, library assets and healthy lunches from our community partners
