WQED Pittsburgh received 16 Emmy nominations from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) -- more than any other broadcast or cable channel in western Pennsylvania. For the fifth straight year, WQED was recognized for overall excellence in programming, station operations and programming with a nomination in the coveted category of Station Excellence. WQED was the first station in the NATAS Mid-Atlantic region to receive the Station Excellence Award when it was introduced in 2006 and then WQED won it again in 2007.
WQED's OnQ was nominated for outstanding work in various categories including environment, health, community service, sports, entertainment, feature and cultural categories. Science Mission 101, a pilot program produced for middle school students, was nominated in the children/youth/teen program category, and The Valley That Changed The World, a documentary produced to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the discovery of oil in Pennsylvania, was nominated in the documentary category.
Losing Lambert: A Journey Through Survival and Hope -- a documentary about teen suicide and what is being done to prevent it--received two nominations, including one for community service.
Other nominations were received for outstanding writing, musical composition, editing, and station promotion.
