Hansel & Gretel Engelbert Humperdinck's fairy-tale opera, with a libretto by his sister, enjoys a reputation for being darkly beautiful, true to its origins in Grimm's Fairy Tales, and a rich orchestration by Humperdinck, an acolyte of Wagner. Spring Awakening This alt-rock musical is based on the 1892 German play by Frank Wedekind, banned due to its portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide. With music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater, the story concerns teenagers who are discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality. L'enfant et les sortileges Ravel's opera tells the story of a reprimanded child who tears up his rroom, then is astonished to find his toys coming to life an talking to him. Windows and Mirrors: Reflections on the War in Afghanistan Art, poetry, and personal witness come together around this traveling exhibit of 45 murals from artists across the U.S., shown alongside drawings collected from Afghan high school students about their daily lives.
