Patrick Romano, piano
Octogenarian pianist Patrick Romano is known in Cambria County as an improviser. His program will include hits such as "Moon River" and "The Man I Love." He also has scheduled some classics and may also sing a song or two.
Legally Blonde: The Musical
Based on the hilarious MGM film, Legally Blonde The Musical follows sorority star Elle Woods, an underestimated blonde who doesn't take "no" for an answer. When her boyfriend dumps her for someone more "serious," Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law.
R. Strauss' 150th Birthday
Music Director Manfred Honeck closes the season with a tribute to Richard Strauss' 150th birthday, featuring an orchestral arrangement of Strauss' one-act opera, Elektra, inspired by Greek mythology; the rarely performed virtuosic concert piece, Burleske, with pianist Rudolf Buchbinder; and the orchestral Suite from from one of Richard Strauss' most celebrated operas, Der Rosenkavalier or "The Knight of the Rose."
Bosnian-American soprano Jasmina Halimic, a "virtuoso ... of technical prowess and expressive transparency" (San Francisco Chronicle) and Duquesne U. alumna sings works by Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Dvorak and Lysenko, as well as world premieres by Despic and Prebanda with Alaine Fink, piano.
Allegheny Brass Band
Citiparks presents free Sunday morning concerts on the lawn at Mellon Park. The Allegheny Brass Band performs Featuring Beatles favorites, along with Broadway tunes, big band sounds, light classics, and marches. Food and beverages can be purchased from The Bagel Factory or bring your own -- you might win Citiparks' weekly Best Brunch Contest.
