Rickstarter: Frequently Asked Questions

Rick Sebak's Kickstarter has just launched! Go to Rickstarter.org and become a sebaker.

Why is WQED doing a Kickstarter campaign?

WQED is always looking for new sources of support.  A Kickstarter campaign is the perfect platform to reach audiences that we don’t normally have access to.  Also, traditional revenue streams have shifted, and this Rick Sebak proposal, “Nebby: Rick Sebak’s Tales of Greater Pittsburgh” can only be produced with funds from a successful Kickstarter campaign.  We’re calling this campaign “Rickstarter” because the funding will be directed to a new Rick Sebak series.

What will this new series be about?

Find out more on Rickstarter.org.  This will directly take you to the Kickstarter page.  There is a video and more information about the project there.  You can view all of this information before making a donation.

How much money can I contribute?

Any amount from $1 and up.  Rewards start at $13.  All of the levels and rewards are listed on Rickstarter.org.

What if I don’t want a reward?

The Kickstarter page allows a donor to make a contribution and opt not to receive any items in return.  You will see this option, titled “Make a pledge without a reward” to the right of the screen above the list of levels.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

A contribution to this campaign is tax deductible to the full extent of the law minus the value of any rewards received in exchange for the contribution.

What happens if Rickstarter exceeds its goal?

All funds will be directed to this project.  If the goal is exceeded, Rick will add more 30 minute programs to the series.

What if the goal is not met?

The entire goal of $113,000 must be met before funding will be released to WQED or any individual is charged.  If the goal is not met, WQED does not receive any of the contributions to Rickstarter and the donor’s credit card will not be charged.

When will my credit card be charged?

Your credit card will not be charged until this campaign is successfully completed and not until the end of the 30 day campaign.

How long is the Kickstarter campaign?

The Rickstarter campaign begins on March 27th at 12:01 a.m. and runs for 30 days.

Will this count as my WQED annual renewal?

No.  This is a special project and the funds raised for this project will not be included in annual membership.
