A new digital platform gives members more ways to enjoy and support WQED.

PITTSBURGH (November 27, 2025) — WQED today announced the launch of WQED+, a new streaming experience that brings together the best of PBS and Pittsburgh in one easy-to-use platform.
When WQED lost federal funding earlier this year, the station made a promise: to turn that challenge into an opportunity and deliver a better viewing experience for the community. Just four months later, that promise is fulfilled with the debut of WQED+, a modern, smarter, and locally centered streaming app.
WQED+ provides a faster, more personalized way to watch trusted PBS programs and exclusive Pittsburgh stories — all in higher definition than broadcast television.
What makes WQED+ a better streaming experience:
- Unlimited on-demand access to thousands of PBS favorites and local stories.
- Complete series and special collections like The Rick Sebak Collection and Ken Burns’ The American Revolution.
- Early access to new episodes and exclusive content.
- Smarter discovery with curated collections and personalized recommendations.
- Five live HD channels: WQED TV, PBS KIDS, Create, World, and The 412.
- Simple sign-in: Qualifying memberships unlock it all — no activation codes or extra steps.
“WQED+ is built for today’s streaming members — easier, smarter, and made for Pittsburgh,” said Jason Jedlinski, President & CEO of WQED Multimedia. “We’re saying thank you to our members by delivering a premium digital experience that finally matches the quality of our storytelling — turning membership into something people truly want to use and support.”
Appropriately, WQED selected Thanksgiving Day for the public launch. “We think families will love discovering it over the holidays — including plenty of seasonal programming and special collections,” Jedlinski added.
How to watch:
WQED+ will be available at launch in app stores for Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, iOS, and Android — with LG and Samsung coming soon. Viewers can simply sign in using their existing PBS Passport account or create a new account to start streaming.
