Music and Myth - Join us this week on Harmonia as we delve into the wealth of music based on mythological stories and legendary figures, from the earliest Italian operatic tragedies to playful cantatas and madrigals. Our featured release is the world-premiere recording of the opera Venus y Adonis by the Spanish Baroque composer José de Nebra performed by the ensemble Los Elamentos.
The concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra heard violinist Hilary Hahn play when she was still a student at Curtis Institute of Music. Her exceptional talent earned her an invitation to make her debut with the LACO, and they went on to make recordings together. You'll hear their performance of a Concerto by Johann Sebastian Bach on Sunday Baroque this weekend.
Alexi Kenney returns to Heinz Hall to play the challenging Violin Concerto by Samuel Baber. Plus, the orchestra shines in Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. You'll hear Bright Idea by Nico Muhly. Juraj Valcuha conducts.
