 | | | Harmonia | | with Angela Mariani | | Oh Haec: This is the day the Lord has made - This week on Harmonia, we're listening an antiphon that is featured in masses for Easter Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Its words begin, "This is the day the Lord has made," and end with a joyous "Alleluya." William Byrd composed what is probably the best-known setting of the text, but we'll also hear a variety of different takes on it. Plus, our featured release is Lucretia Borgia's daughter: Princess, Nun and Musician Motets from a 16th-century Convent by Musica Secreta and Celestial Sirens. |

 | | | Song of Joy | | The Mendelssohn's | | This joyful hour of music for chorus and orchestra captures the spirit of Easter and the rebirth of spring. VocalEssence sings works by the siblings Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn. Felix was allowed to become a famous composer, even as that career path was closed to his equally talented sister. This special features choral settings by both, showcasing the siblings' enormous talent, and culminating with Lobgesang, a festive Song of Joy based on Psalms and other biblical texts. |
