The Museum of Renaissance Music - This week on Harmonia, we're visiting The Museum of Renaissance Music, or at least, listening to it. Editors Vincenzo Borghetti and Tim Shephard built a new "paper museum," a book exploring the history of Renaissance music in 100 artifacts, with detailed images and essays by expert scholars. These musical objects have fascinating stories to tell, so join us as we peruse the exhibits and imagine what they heard.
March 8th is International Women's Day, and Sunday Baroque will celebrate the accomplishments of some women in music, such as harpsichordist and conductor Jeannette *Sorrell. She founded her group Apollo's Fire in 1992, partly as a response of a disastrous job interview. Jeannette Sorrell is one of the trailblazing musical leaders you'll hear on Sunday Baroque this week.
Tchaikovsky considered Ukraine a second home and refuge, and he began work on this symphony while staying just outside of Kyiv. One of his most joyful compositions, this symphony creatively incorporates Ukrainian folk songs. The concert features a percussion concerto commissioned for Christoph Sietzen,
