Listening to Art: Behind Closed Doors - This week on Harmonia, we've got our ear to the keyhole as our "Listening to Art" series explores sixteenth- and seventeenth-century images of music making in elite private spaces. We'll take in a variety of sounds heard behind closed doors, from Jan Steen's garden terrace to Henry VIII's banquet hall.
For their album of Johann Sebastian Bach's Sonatas for violin and harpsichord, Rachel Barton Pine used her pristine 1770 violin and Jory Vinikour used his own harpsichord ย built especially for him and modeled after a French instrument. Not only is it the harpsichord's recording debut, they also used it on the cd cover. You'll hear them playing one of those Bach Sonatas on Sunday Baroque this week.
