Los Angeles born Pittsburgh based illustrator Stacy Innerst has illustrated The Music in George’s Head written by Suzanne Slade and published by Calkins Creek. The book is based on the events surrounding the premiere of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue for young readers. Stacy worked for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette for 15 years and still provides the design for the Sunday captioning contest. He’s published several books with music themes and is represented by a Los Angeles gallery. He reveals his route to success in the art world, tells you how to get a children’s book deal and much more in a wide ranging interview with Jim Cunningham.
McKeesport born Byron Janis stopped by WQED-FM in between his three master classes at CMU with Mrs. Maria Cooper Janis. Pittsburgh Symphony violinist Roy Sonne played in the Pittsburgh Symphony orchestra for 28 seasons with Lorin Maazel, Andre Previn and Mariss Jansons as Music Directors. He loves to teach and continues to be a force on the music scene. Friday November 4th at 8pm at Calvary United Methodist Church 971 Beech Avenue Roy will present Reunion with his student Leigh Mahoney who now plays violin in the Austin Symphony and Opera as well as for Austin City Limits.
