The International Cather Seminar is scheduled for June 11-17, 2017, at Pittsburgh's Duquesne University. During Cather's ten years in Pittsburgh, she worked as an editor, teacher, reviewer, and freelance writer. As importantly, she collected friends and mixed with all sorts of Pittsburghers. WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham sat down with conductor Yudo Ikach, Seminar Co-Director James Japp, and English Professor Kim Vanderlaan to discuss the seminar.
Jim Cunningham interviews Emerson String Quartet's violinist Eugene Drucker and violist Lawrence Dutton, regarding the release of the quartet's newest album "Music of Britten and Purcel." Drucker and Dutton discuss Britten's influences of, and homages to Purcel throughout the album.
Jennifer Kloetzel of the Cypress String Quartet, is interviewed by WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham regarding the group's final album "Brahms: String Sextets." Kloetzel and Cunningham discuss a range of topics, including the current activities of former-group members, and the rich history of the quartet's 20 well-played years.
Famed-violinist Rachel Barton Pine is interviewed by WQED-FM's Ethan Simmons, regarding the release of her 35th album "Bel Canto Paganini." The interview focuses on the mythicism of Niccolo Paganini; Pine's take on the athletic requirements of Paganini's challenging "24 caprices;" and the her views on the Classical-music world, as well as the Arts community as a whole.
Richard Teaster joins baritone Ryan Ricarte to discuss upcoming concerts, the Steel City Men’s Chorale and guest organist Nicholas Will in Carnegie Pa on June 4th at 4pm with Chants et Prieres at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and on June 14th at Shadyside Presbyterian 7pm in the Music for Midsummer Nights series.
