United in Purpose: A Celebration of Women’s History Month Featuring the Music and Lyrics of African American Women
March 15 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
FreeBelle Voci, the Heritage Gospel Chorale of Pittsburgh, and the University of Pittsburgh Pantherhythms will join together on Saturday, March 15th at 3:00 P.M. at the Pentecostal Temple Church (6300 E Liberty Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15206). The concert is free and open to the public.
“United in Purpose,” showcases a collection of music and lyrics from prominent African American Women in the Arts including Rosephanye Powell, Undine S. Moore, Lena McLin and Diane L. White. One selection, which shares the title of the concert, is a gospel-styled anthem based on a piece by Dr. Maya Angelou. She writes, “The onus is upon us all to work to improve the human condition. Perform good deeds, for that is truly the way to battle the forces of entropy that are at work in our world. The composite of all our efforts can have an effect. Good done anywhere is good done everywhere. When we unite in purpose, we are greater than the sum of our parts.”
This piece speaks not only to the needs for unity in our current world, but also to the celebration of those who have worked tirelessly to improve the human condition before us. This concert will inspire, uplift and ignite your passion to bring goodness into our community.
