The Academy String Quartet with Bassoonist Linda Fisher
April 27 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
FreeAcademy Concerts at Central Prebyterian presents a program of chamber music favorites, rarely-heard works, and a world premiere. One of Joseph Haydn’s best-loved works, the string quartet Op 74 #3, nicknamed “The Rider,” opens the program. The nickname comes from the rollicking final movement that sounds like a mad dash on horseback. The other “favorite” work is Mozart’s G major duo for violin and viola. Bassoonist Linda Fisher joins a trio of strings for an Allegro by Bernard Garfield (who was for many years the principal bassoon of the Philadelphia Orchestra) and a quartet by Francois Devienne, someimes called “the French Mozart.” Our world premiere is Bulgarian Suite, Part 2, by Pittsburgher Thomas Roncevic.
