“Taras Filenko and Friends”
Ukrainian born pianist and music historian Dr. Taras Filenko will perform for one night only at MCG Jazz. Taras will be joined on stage by members of the Pittsburgh Symphony and guest artists. The concert will feature the compelling sounds of Ukrainian music, threaded together with commentary providing context and insight, and enhanced by projected slides of Ukrainian visual art and contemporary photography. The music will range from the baroque period to contemporary compositions, highlighting the extraordinary musical creativity of Ukraine’s composers and folk artists. The finale will bring to light the little known Ukrainian roots of a beloved jazz standard in a unique interpretation by Filenko and friends.

All proceeds from the concert will benefit Brother’s Brother Foundation, which provides critical support to Ukraine for medical services and humanitarian relief.
