Songs and Serenades presented by the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh
September 7 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh (COP) opens its 10th Anniversary Season, with a program reflecting the defining qualities of the orchestra: diverse repertoire, a compelling soloist, and rarely heard masterpieces. On September 7, 2024 at Levy Hall of Rodef Shalom COP will perform a program that features Reza Vali’s “Calligraphy No. 19,” Osvaldo Golijov’s Three Songs for Soprano and Orchestra, and Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece Serenade for Strings.
Iranian-American composer Reza Vali has received much acclaim over his impressive career, including performance of his work by the Kronos Quartet, Pittsburgh Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and the Baltimore Symphony; and his compositions have been recorded on the Deutsche Grammophon, Naxos, New Albion, MMC, Ambassador, Albany, and ABC Classics labels.
Chantal Braziel has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Opera, and she will make her first appearance with COP. Golijov has a host of compositions that have received international recognition and is currently working on his Megalopolis Suite for Ricardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
“It is such a privilege to be entering our tenth season,” says Artistic Director Edward Leonard, “and we are doing it with program that combines works that span the diverse range of classical music and that celebrates the wonderful artists of Pittsburgh.”
Reception to follow.
Tickets are $30 if purchased in advance and $35 at the door, and $10 for students.
