Resonance Works presents the regional premiere of The Jungle Book, a family-friendly opera inspired by the beloved novel. Featuring guest artists and the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus, this heartwarming tale sends a powerful message about embracing those who are different, and recognizing “the heart that beats in all of us.”

Experience the Pittsburgh premiere of The Jungle Book by Kamala Sankaram and Kelley Rourke, a heartwarming new opera for audiences of all ages! In this vibrant reimagining of Rudyard Kipling’s beloved tale, Mowgli, an endangered human cub, seeks refuge among a pack of wolves in the heart of the jungle. Sankaram’s vibrant score weaves in elements of Indian classical music including ragas and vocal percussion. With themes of community, empathy, and celebrating our differences, this special opera’s inclusive message has never been more urgent: “The heart that beats in all of us wants to love without limitation.”

Our new production by director Eve Summer features returning ResWorks artists Timothi Williams as Raksha, Sergio Martinez as Baloo, Samina Aslam as Bagheera, Adrianna Cleveland as Heyena, and the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus as the wolf pack. Karlos Piñero-Mercado makes their Resonance Works debut as the tiger Shere Kahn, alongside debuts from PYC members Lianne Fileta as Mowgli and Hudson Vasquez Schmitt as Little Brother. Maria Sensi Sellner conducts.
