Organ Recital by John Dixon, AGO National Treasurer
November 22, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeBorn in England in 1957, John Dixon learned to play the pipe organ and started composing music while at high school. During his school years, he was active in music in the Anglican church and was a founding member of The Southend Boys Choir, one of Britain’s foremost youth choirs. Although he earned degrees in engineering and business from The Queen’s College, Oxford University, and Harvard Business School, music has always been an important part of his life. His composing has flourished since moving to America in 1988, largely through his involvement in the music ministry at Providence Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, where he has been the organist and composer‑in‑residence. Having composed seriously since 1990, Dixon currently has more than 950 compositions to his credit for organ, choir and orchestral ensembles. In 2003, he was appointed Executive Director of the Academy of Music, a community music school based in Norfolk. Currently he serves as Treasurer and Councillor for Finance and Development as an officer of the National Council for the Guild.
