Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh – Future and Fate

October 11, 2025 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$15 – $40

The Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh (COP) opens its season on Saturday, October 11, 2025, 7:30pm at Levy Hall of Rodef Shalom with a program titled “Future and Fate.” Featured soloists and Pittsburgh virtuosi Jennifer Gerhard Mangone and Jeffrey T. Mangone Sr. will perform Dittersdorf’s Sinfonia Concertante for Viola and Bass. Next, COP will present the Pittsburgh premiere “I Have Seen the Future” by Matt Browne, the winner of the 2024 Kreitler Composition Competition. The program concludes with one of Mozart’s landmark masterpieces, the Symphony No. 40 in G Minor.

Jennifer Gerhard Mangone and Jeff Mangone are two of Pittsburgh’s finest musicians and frequently perform with the Pittsburgh Opera and Pittsburgh CLO, as well as with the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh where they are serve as Principal Viola and Principal Bass respectively. The unusual and rarely performed Dittersdorf double concerto will provide them with an opportunity to shine as soloists.

The Brown composition comes as a result of a collaboration between six chamber orchestras nationally. COP has joined this consortium in order to support the creation of new work, and this performance will be the Pittsburgh premiere of the piece.

The concert concludes with one of Mozart’s beloved masterpieces. The special opportunity at this concert will be the performance of the work by a chamber orchestra, an ensemble more akin to what Mozart himself would have originally envisioned for the piece.

“This concert spans so much of what we are about,” says COP Artistic Director Edward Leonard. “We are celebrating local musicians, supporting and sharing new compositions, and giving a different presentation of a familiar piece. It will be an outstanding experience and a great way to kick off our program year.”

Reception to follow.
