Awadagin Pratt Returns to the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh
April 20 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh (COP) hosts guest pianist and conductor Awadagin Pratt on April 20, 2024 at Rodef Shalom. Pratt will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488, and will conduct the orchestra in a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and Arvo Pärt’s Cantus in Memorium Benjamin Britten. This performance will be Pratt’s second appearance with the orchestra. He performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and conducted Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 with COP in February 2022.
A pianist who has gathered accolades nationally and internationally, Pratt joins COP after the great triumph of having been the pianist on Jessie Montgomery’s 2024 Grammy-winning composition “Rounds.” His appearance with COP comes in the context of a rich performance and conducting season that includes appearances with the Nashville, Utah, Bournemouth, and Annapolis Symphonies.
“Awadagin Pratt is an exceptional talent,” says Artistic Director and Conductor Edward Leonard. “It is a privilege for us to perform with him this season, and this concert represents a unique opportunity for Pittsburgh to hear one of music’s great voices of today.”
Reception to follow.
