Academy Concerts presents Kamraton
Kamratōn is celebrating its tenth season of bringing adventurous new chamber music to Pittsburgh by revisiting works presented throughout its previous seasons. The program explores a range of styles and characters, from mischievous and playful to visceral and emotive and from rhythmically propulsive grooves to mysteriously shimmering textures, while presenting works by 20th- and 21st-century composers from around the world.
Many works will highlight the close interplay between Kamratōn’s ensemble members, including Anna-Louise Waltons’ Basket of Figs, a trio for voice, flute, and clarinet where the performers inventively imitate each other’s gestures, and a series of duos by Jessie Montgomery, one of America’s leading contemporary composers, and 20th-century mavericks Claude Vivier and Giacinto Scelsi. The program also features Being As One by Dai Fujikura, a tour-de-force trio for voice, bass clarinet, and cello that heavily features extended techniques for each performer, and Ligamy by Pittsburgh composer Amy Williams, a sprightly work originally composed for the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble. Finally, the program will conclude with 4 Instances of Eliot by Kyle Grimm, a work commissioned by Kamratōn that captures the beauty, ironic humor, and occasional pathos in a selection of poems by T. S. Eliot.
