The Calvary Episcopal Church Choir and Chatham Baroque, its ensemble-in-residence, will present A Service of Advent Lessons and Carols on Sunday, November 30, at 4:00 p.m. Calvary Church (315 Shady Avenue) is especially beautiful at dusk and a vivid reminder of the movement from darkness to light that is central to the Advent season. The readings will highlight the themes of expectation and promise, and the musical responses that follow reflect those ideas. Chatham Baroque, the soloists, and choir will sing J.S. Bach’s first cantata for the first Sunday of Advent, Savior of the Nations, Come. Other offerings include works by Batten, Boles, Handl, Helvey, and Lewis, and the choir will lead the congregation in hymns and carols for the season. The choir is led by Dr. Alan J. Lewis and accompanied by Jon Tyillian, organ. The service will be live-streamed. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
