This is just amazing. That is my uncle's portrait. I grew up seeing it in my grandmother's house. He was killed not very long after going overseas but he was always a part of our family. I never knew the story behind the portrait but it's always made me feel connected to a family member I never knew. The portrait is prized by my family. Elizabeth must have been a brave woman. --------Linda Chamberlain, Cartersville, IL - July 22, 2016. ------------------------------(Editor's note: James A. Philipps was killed in action at age 19, February 23, 1945 in Linnich, Germany, three months after posing for Elizabeth Black. The family still has the original portrait - David Solomon, Executive Producer, WQED)
