This time capsule is an unexpected, special gift from Elizabeth Black and the American Red Cross. This portrait was sketched on October 20, 1944 in France during World War II. It captured my father's face at that moment in time - and now it has captured the happiness and joy of my entire family - especially to receive it on October 20, 2014, seventy years to the exact date it was drawn. This portrait has finally made its way home. The Mastronicola family sincerely wants to thank Elizabeth Black, her family. Also a very special thanks to Dave Solomon and the staff at WQED in Pittsburgh - for bringing my father's portrait home. Michael Mastronicola, Brooklyn, NY - October 29, 2014
