My mother had the original portrait for many years. My brother had several copies made for family members. Elizabeth Black's portrait of our father will always be a part of our family heritage. Dad passed away early at age 60 so this portrait of him at such a young age is very special. We wish we would have asked him more questions about that time. Elizabeth Black's mission was a good example of how the men and women of that generation wanted to participate or help in any way they could during the war. Her contribution was through her art. She probably never thought about how much happiness her portraits would bring to the families of the soldiers over 70 years later. Thank you again for contacting me and good luck with finding the rest of "Elizabeth's Soldiers." - Shelley Van Atta, The Villages, Florida - February 10, 2017.
