I was thrilled to learn that my wonderful father, Ernie DiGrandi, was part of this special documentary on Elizabeth Black. It was such a surprise to learn more about this portrait, something I have treasured for many years, and ironically I found out about it on what would have been my father's 90th birthday. I always wondered who Elizabeth Black was and it is exciting to see first hand how special her work was to so many soldiers. I always enjoyed hearing stories of my father's WWII experiences and was very proud of him for receiving the purple heart. I'm sure he is smiling down on us and is very happy to be part of such a lovely tribute to Elizabeth Black and her unique artistic talents. Madeline DiGrandi-Yonki, Bronx, NY - May 4, 2015.
