Devon Diaz

Devon “Dee” Diaz is an ex-officio member of WQED Multimedia’s Board of Directors, participating through Leadership Pittsburgh’s Leadership OnBoard program, part of its Community Leadership Course for Veterans XII cohort.
A native of Allentown, Penn., and a graduate of DeSales University, Major Diaz was commissioned as an Adjutant General Officer through Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, in 2008. As a Human Resources Officer, she has served in numerous units across the country and deployed to Afghanistan from 2010–2011.
Before her military service, Diaz worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant and within the juvenile justice system for five years. She remains deeply committed to community service, volunteering at local events, mentoring youth, and serving on the Board of the Military Affairs Council of Western Pennsylvania (MACWPA). She also gave a stranger the gift of life by donating a kidney.
Her military education includes the Adjutant General Officer courses, Master Army Profession and Ethic Trainer Course, Brigade HR Plans and Operations, Brigade S1/HR Course, Captain Career and Command Courses, and Intermediate Level Education (ILE). She earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Lehigh Carbon Community College (2002), dual bachelors degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology from DeSales University (2006), and an MBA in Human Resources from Columbia Southern University (2015).
Major Diaz’s awards and decorations include multiple Army Meritorious, Commendation, and Achievement Medals; the National Defense Service Medal; Operation Enduring Freedom Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbons; ISAF NATO Medal; Meritorious Unit Citation; Adjutant General Regimental Achievement Award; Hartio Gates Award; and the Infantry Order of Saint Maurice.
She is the proud mother of Julian (17), who lives in Allentown and plays football and competes in powerlifting for Parkland High School; Julissa (15), who plays softball for Moon High School; and step-daughter Jozelyn (25), who lives in Allentown.
