It started in 1909 with five animal lovers organizing to return lost pets to their owners, and caring for starving dogs and cats. Now into its second century, The Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania has evolved into much more. This episode of Experience reports on the shelter's history, challenges, successes, its outreach programs, and the volunteers who simply care about the well-being and love of animals.

Those were just some of the haunting questions for Kathy O'Hern Fowler when she lost her teenage son, Lambert Hillman, to suicide in 1995. Kathy spent years struggling with loss and grief, but would eventually move into a life-altering role as an advocate for other parents who tragically find themselves in the same position.
