General Program Information

Program Title: America’s Home Cooking: Family Favorites

National Release Date: (2nd Release) March 1, 2006

Rights Period: Unlimited PTV releases during the period beginning March 4, 2006 and expiring March 31, 2009

Description of the Program:
These recipes are the kind of family treasures that are passed down from generation to generation. These are the dishes that families prepare to mark all their special occasions from holidays and birthdays to homecomings and reunions. They are the ones our families clamor for and they connect us to our own past and our cultural heritage.

Mouths will water and eyes will tear as we cook and share the stores that make all these recipes FAMILY FAVORITES. The segments will be grouped into three one-hour units so the program can be fit in a one, two or three hour slot.

The cookbook is HUGE and includes not only recipes for everything from soups and appetizers to salads, main courses and desserts.

Core Program Content and Outros:

Special note: This program (core version) is designed to be used as a One, Two, or Three-hour program (once pledge breaks are integrated into the program). There are funding credit (Viewers Like You/Thank you) and the explanation of the program's concept at the beginning of "each hour" or in segment One, Four or Seven. However, there is only one credit roll at the very end of the program.

Act #1 (length 13:06):
The program opens on WQED Multimedia Logo. Then funding credits, Viewers Like You/Thank You and program open with title graphic for the America 's Home Cooking series.

Intro with show hosts Chris Fennimore and Nancy Polinsky. They explain the program's concept:

"HI, I'M CHRIS FENNIMORE. AND I'M NANCY POLINSKY. WE'RE BACK IN THE KITCHEN. " AMERICA 'S HOME COOKING." AND WE WERE THINKING ABOUT WHAT TOPIC WE WOULD DO NEXT. AND WE DECIDED ON FAMILY FAVORITES. ABSOLUTELY EVERYBODY'S GOT A RECIPE OR TWO IN THEIR BOX THAT'S JUST DOG EARED BECAUSE THE FAMILY LOVES IT. AND YOU'VE PASSED IT, YOUR GRANDMOTHER PASSED IT, YOUR MOTHER PASSED IT TO YOU. IT'S JUST A FAMILY FAVORITE, AND WE ASKED PEOPLE TO SEND US THEIRS.

WE HAD A TERRIFIC RESPONSE BECAUSE PEOPLE REALLY UNDERSTOOD WHAT WE MEANT BY FAMILY FAVORITES. THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE COOK FOR BIRTHDAYS, ANNIVERSARIES, SPECIAL HOLIDAYS. ALL OF THOSE WONDERFUL MOMENTS IN OUR FAMILIES WHERE WE SHARE NOT JUST THE FOOD BUT OUR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER, THE TRADITIONS, BOTH OUR FAMILY TRADITIONS, OUR ETHNIC TRADITIONS AND OUR HOLIDAY TRADITIONS. THOSE ARE TERRIFIC MOMENTS THAT WE GET TO SPEND. AND WE USUALLY DO IT AROUND FOOD, SO WE KNOW WHAT THOSE RECIPES ARE.

YOU KNOW, WHEN I USED TO COME HOME, AND I USED TO SAY TO MY MOTHER, "PLEASE, MAKE SURE, IF YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE ONE THING, MAKE THIS." AND THOSE ARE THE RECIPES THAT PEOPLE SENT IN. WE'VE GATHERED THEM TOGETHER INTO A NEW " AMERICA 'S HOME COOKING" COOKBOOK. AND YOU'RE GOING TO GET INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO GET YOUR OWN COPY OF THAT. THERE ARE OVER 200 RECIPES IN THIS VERSION OF IT. AND, YOU KNOW, SO IT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT ADDITION TO YOUR COLLECTION OF " AMERICA 'S HOME COOKING" COOKBOOKS. AND I THINK YOU HAVE ONE OF YOUR RECIPES IN HERE. I DO, I DO. ONE OF THE THINGS I LOVE MOST ABOUT FAMILY FAVORITE RECIPES IS THAT THEY'RE OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH A SPECIFIC PERSON. GRANDMAMAS OR BUBBAS OR SOMEBODY. AND YOU'LL SEE SOME OF THE NAMES IN HERE REFLECT THAT. THESE ARE TERRIFIC RECIPES, BUT WE'RE NOT GOING TO JUST TALK ABOUT THE COOKBOOK AND HOW WE GOT THEM, WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS TO GO INTO THE KITCHEN AND SEE SOME OF THESE RECIPES MADE."
