DPTV is partnering with the Detroit Historical Society to conduct a teacher education workshop and to hold a public screening event for their outreach campaign for the The War That Made America series.
The workshop conducted for American history teachers at the Detroit Historical Museum will include a preview clip of the series, a presentation by a local history expert and a guided tour of a related exhibit entitled, “From Frontier to Factories: Detroiters At Work.” This exhibit depicts the city’s economic progress from a French fur trading post to a major industrial center. Each participant will receive a copy of the Educator’s Guide, which will also be distributed to museum visitors.
The public screening event will be held at the Detroit Historical Museum on December 29, 2005 and be promoted in conjunction with the series. A local expert on colonial history will present and facilitate a panel discussion. Attendees will also participate in a tour of the related exhibit.
DPTV will produce a history Web page on the French and Indian War with information about the series and resources available, including a link to the Detroit Historical Society and the PBS Web site. The station will also promote the series and outreach events during “Noel Night,” an annual holiday event that attracts 50,000 attendees, held in December at Detroit’s cultural center.
