Biographies

Jim Roddey

Jim Roddey

James C. Roddey was elected Allegheny County's First Chief Executive in November of 1999 and served until January of 2004. Mr. Roddey served as a board member of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority (The Pittsburgh Oversight Board) from February of 2004 until July of 2005 and currently is a Commissioner of the Pennsylvania Public Transit Funding and Reform Commission.

Mr. Roddey is a graduate of Texas Christian University and a former Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. His forty plus year business career has included the Presidencies of Turner Communication Corp., Rollins Communications Corp., Wexford Health Sources (a nationwide provider of specialized health services), as well as the Presidencies or Chairmanships of six other companies. Mr. Roddey served as a Director of 5 publicly held corporations and as President of two national, industry trade organizations. He is currently Chairman of Business Records Management, serves as a Director of Vocollect Health Care Systems, Seec, Inc., PeriOptimum and is on the advisory boards of Renda Broadcasting, and PNC Equity Management.

Active in civic, community and governmental affairs, Mr. Roddey has served on the boards of thirty such organizations, twelve of which he chaired, including Port Authority Transit, Eye and Ear Hospital, WQED, The Public Theatre and The United Way. Mr. Roddey currently serves; as an Emeritus Trustee of the University of Pittsburgh, on the boards of the Sara Scaife Foundation and The Pittsburgh Foundation. He is Chairman of Riverquest and a Director or Life Member of twelve other non-profit boards.

Joe Mistick

Joe Mistick

Joseph Sabino Mistick has spent nearly forty years in public service and politics. Currently a regular Sunday columnist for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Joe is a leading progressive voice in our region and a frequent guest lecturer and public speaker.

Joe was the executive secretary to Pittsburgh Mayor Sophie Masloff from 1989-1992. During the administration of Mayor Richard S. Caliguiri, Joe served seven years as chairman of the Pittsburgh zoning board of adjustment and vice-chairman of the planning commission.

Joe was appointed by Mayor Caliguiri to the original Pittsburgh Apportionment Commission. He also served on the original Allegheny County Apportionment Commission, by appointment of the Democratic Caucus of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Joe has served as an aide to the Allegheny County Commissioners and the Urban Affairs Committee of the Pennsylvania State Senate. He was an elected member of East McKeesport borough council, municipal secretary of Braddock Borough, a delegate to the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities, a member of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Planning Commission and a board member of the City/County Public Auditorium Authority.

A recognized expert in land use law, urban development and crime & public policy, Joe worked to establish the Pittsburgh Weed & Seed Program, along with then-U.S. Attorney Tom Corbett and the late Councilman Jake Milliones. This program became a national model.

Joe is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University School of Law, where he is an associate professor of clinical legal education. He has also served as an adjunct professor of law at Pitt.
