Several OnQ specials were also honored. WQED competes in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Emmy statuettes were presented at a ceremony in Philadelphia to the following WQED team members.

OnQ's documentary "From Pittsburgh To Poland: Lessons of the Holocaust" has received the Edward R. Murrow Award for Outstanding News Documentary.

The Radio-Television News Director Association has honored outstanding achievement in electronic journalism with the Murrow Awards since 1971. Earlier this month, 28 radio and television news managers from markets across the country spent three days judging the entries.

WQED's entry won in the region which includes Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Regional winners automatically become eligible for the national awards competition, which will be judged in early June. The national Edward R. Murrow Awards will be presented on October 16 at a dinner in New York.

Michael Bartley has been chosen as the 2005 recipient of "The Bill Burns Award."
The Art Rooney Award Dinner committee informed Michael "you have been nominated and recommended by both your peers in the field and by several committee members who were very moved by your powerful work." Michael joins some well-known and prestigious honorees including Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Bill Cowher who will accept "The Art Rooney Award."

The Rooney Dinner will be held Thursday, April 7th at the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel. For more information, call 412-621-3342.

More Emmys for OnQ!
WQED Multimedia's flagship program, OnQ Magazine, received Emmy Awards from the National Television Academy in two categories at a ceremony in Philadelphia on September 18.

OnQ was voted Outstanding Magazine Format Broadcast in the Mid-Atlantic Region for an episode featuring stories on the Dixmont mental institution and Pittsburgh glass sculptor Steve Eisenhauer.

OnQ received the Juvenile Justice Award from the Allegheny County Bar Association for its 13-part series "Lessons For Life."

This collaborative effort between the OnQ and WQED Education Resource Center staffs, showcased local people and organizations that keep young people out of trouble.

Carol Lee Espy's report on the banning and removal of landmines was shown at a November 12 concert in Washington, DC.

The Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation presented singer Emmylou Harris with its Patrick Leahy Humanitarian Award for her campaign against landmines. Espy, along with WQED coworkers David Solomon and Paul Ruggieri produced the story. Read the concert review in Rolling Stone.

At a ceremony on September 14 in Philadelphia. Gina was recognized for her stories on Project Hope, an agency that helps Americans adopt Russian orphans, and Eyes On The Prize, a support group for women with gynecological cancer. Read more in the P-G.
