Obesity is linked to major health consequences - and the best solution will come from changes in the way we eat and exercise. The Pittsburgh region has addressed a number of obesity issues and has some promising programs in place. Below are descriptions of OnQ's four days of special coverage.

Obesity & Health Care Costs - Obesity is not only one of the top public health concerns in the U.S. today, it's also one of the reasons for rising health care costs. OnQ introduces a Pittsburgh-area woman who considered bariatric surgery, but instead lost more than 100-pounds working with a nutrition counselor.

Obesity On Campus - Three out of every 10 college students are overweight or obese - and colleges are considering their options when it comes to addressing this growing health crisis. This OnQ report looks at local universities' unique efforts to battle an obesity problem far more serious than the fabled "freshman fifteen."

Obesity: One Child's Battle - OnQ's Michael Bartley first introduced viewers to Matt Sartore of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania in 2004, when he was in 4th grade. Now a freshman in high school, Matt updates his ongoing weight battle and has an important message about the importance of talking openly about the stigma of obesity.

Obesity Discussion: School Programs - Many Pittsburgh area schools have successful programs that foster healthier eating and encourage more active lifestyles for children. OnQ showcases two of them. Guests: Dr. Mary Goessler, pediatrician and Highmark medical director; Dan Vete, physical education teacher who oversees the "Exertainment" and "Rowing Rox" programs at Sto-Rox Elementary School; Sharon Conway, director of food services for 2800 students in the Highlands School District.
