12/14/01: Gum chewin' ex-Pens coach Kevin Constantine introduced us to Pittsburgh's junior hockey club: The Forge! Cool name, cool uniforms and they play at the flashy new Island Sports Center on Neville Island. The day after that program aired, the New Jersey Devils hired Kevin as their head coach! Coincidence? We think not.

11/16/01: Movie buffs Dave & Dave traveled to Johnstown in spite of their fear of floods, to visit a hometown institution, the Westwood Theatre & Cafe. Is it a movie theater? Is it a restaurant? Turns out, it was an unusual combo of the two! And we tasted some sort of Johnstown tradition called gobs!

11/1/01: Playoff Fever brought us to Quad A Superpower North Hills' home field for a taste of what it's really like in this high school football crazy part of the state. Post Gazette nice guy Mike White also lent his expertise.

9/28/01: The Daves helped the WDVE Morning Show, and official radio network of the Pittsburgh Steelers kick off the Steeler season with a live broadcast from the Coca-Cola Great Hall, deep inside brand-new Heinz Field, the new home of the black and gold. Cold day, cold Steeler fans, cold beer.

9/3/01: Suckers for tradition, Dave & Dave return with their 2nd annual Labor Day Special. This time they hijacked the OnQ show by taking Chris Moore & Carol Lee Espy hostage!

8/3/01: This was going to be it, once and for all. Dave & Dave finally go head to head on all of the various sports contests at the new UPMC Sportsworks down there next to the science center. But we ran into KDKA's Dave Crawley and things kind of got confusing with all of the rhyming!

6/20/01: In a city with three rivers, we decided to take the wheel of the biggest boat in town, the Gateway Clipper Fleet's Majestic, and ram our way through the point. Turns out it was pretty easy to drive, although parallel parking the thing at Station Square was pretty tough.

6/14/01: Dave & Dave appear on PCNC's "Honsberger Live," with their pal & Friday night nemesis Fred Honsberger. The highlight of the day however was meeting meteorologist Julie Bologna at home in her native habitat, WPXI's weather center high atop Television Hill.

6/2/01: The Daves made their first requested "celebrity appearance." The always lovely Tom and Mary Beth Pastorius invited Dave & Dave to be a part of their annual Micro-Brew fest. Let me get this straight, all we had to do was sit in a booth with our name on it, talk to people and drink free "samples." Definitely a great experience! Penn Brewery rules!

6/1/01: The Daves traveled to Bethel Park to meet Pittsburgh's newest professional sports franchise, the soccer-playing Pittsburgh Riverhounds, coached by ex-Spirit guy Paul Child. They scored a ton of goals that night and our cameraman missed every one.

5/23/01: Kennywood was ready to unveil it's newest coaster, The Phantom's Revenge and the call went out to Dave & Dave to give it the once over. So the Daves rode it like 20 times in a row claiming they needed different camera angles each time. And it worked!

5/10/01: As a public service, the Daves volunteered with their trusty pals Chris Fletcher, Minette Seate and Dave Finoli to be guinea pigs and rate the area 's micro-brewed beers. Pretty tough! After visiting and tasting everything in sight at Penn Brewery, Valhalla, The Foundry, Red Star and John Harvard's, frankly they didn't remember much of anything! Good thing they recorded it all for Pittsburgh magazine to print.

4/19/01: Dave & Dave visit our nation's capitol and their tour of the famous DC monuments somehow wound up as incidents at some unpronounceable, foreign embassy and at the heart of an impromptu rally outside the White House that had to be broken up by the DC cops! I can still hear the chants of "More Dave & Dave!"

4/19/01: While being run out of town the Daves hid in a DC bar that turned out to be ý Pittsburgh Bar and ý tiki bar! Dave & Dave traded memorabilia for some DC versions of Primanti sandwiches, pierogies and Iron City beer. If you're ever in DC, visit Politiki and look for the Dave & Dave autographed Pittsburgh Magazine hanging somewhere on their walls of all things Pittsburgh!

4/17/01: Special Agent Bill Crowley gave us the call and we responded. That's right Dave & Dave travel to Quantico, Virginia to become legit FBI agents, or so we thought! Those windbreakers would finally be in our sights! We did get 5 excellent TV adventures and an in-depth Pittsburgh magazine feature out of the deal. Oh yeah, we also drove skid cars, explored Hogan's Alley, ran their 3 mile obstacle course and ate in their cafeteria! Not sure which was most dangerous.

4/9/01: Dave & Dave join the WDVE morning show live on the Pirates Opening Day and the debut of PNC Park. That comedy performance wound up on WDVE's annual charity CD that following Christmas. The Daves give back!

4/4/01: Dave & Dave had their first encounter on horseback and quickly realized one important thing, men are not built to ride horses! The folks at Story Brook Stables (724-223-9229) tried to convince us otherwise, but afterward the Daves looked like the horses were rode them!

3/28/01: Forget about that Jonathan Edwards guy. Dave & Dave crossed over into another dimension on their visit to the Open Mind Book Store in Sewickley. The Daves got their palms read, saw auras and put a curse on each other that they're still trying to fix!

3/15/01: The newest crown jewel of the North Shore was just about to be unveiled and the Daves got the first peek at brand spankin' new PNC Park. About half way through the tour, the Daves also became the first two civilians ejected from PNC Park! At least we got that on tape!

3/10/01: The WQED Membership folks ask Dave & Dave to be the "talent" for a night of live TV pledge, for some kind of Canadian comedy program called the "Red Green Show." We decided to bring sledge hammers and smash stuff live as people called in with their pledges.

2/28/01: If you've ever seen us eat then you'd think samurai chefs would be something right up our alley. I mean sure we can toss food all over the place with the best of them, but could we cook it? Benihana in Greentree was willing to find out! What's that saying about running with scissors?

2/14/01: Trying to do a checkup on a rabbit, iguana or beagle turned out to be a little harder than first thought. Turns out animals can't really tell you what's bothering them. But Dr. Bennett at All-Pet Animal Hospital sure told us what was bothering him… namely us!

1/29/01: You've seen those big-bicepped wrestlers on TV Monday nights. Dave & Dave took their tag team mentality to the World Wrestling Federation (now the WWE) when they visited town and proceeded to get pushed around a lot. The Rock wasn't so tough, but Vince McMahon & his staff sure were!

1/26/01: The Daves returned to the WDVE airwaves without their TV cameras. They joined Jim, Randy and the rest of the morning show crew and became regular radio comedic contributors.

1/17/01: Like Maverick & IceMan before them, Dave & Dave took to the friendly skies over Pittsburgh and tred to muster some of the right stuff. Kevin Daw and the folks at the Pittsburgh Flight Training Center really earned their wings all over again that day!

1/3/01: As far as fancy haircuts go, Izzazu Salon takes the cake. Dave & Dave magically transformed themselves into the owners and master hair guys, Gino & Emilio! They even gave someone a modified shixie! And nobody sued! Izzazu, 343 Blvd. of the Allies, 412-325-1600.

1/1/01: The Dave's third half-hour OnQ special, dubbed "New Year's Dave!" We combined all of our Grand Canyon specials into 30 action-packed minutes. Critics called it "The Parade of Roses, F Troop & The Thorn Birds all in one!"
