WQED VIDEO SALES
BLOSSOM INTO BROADER RETAIL OFFERINGS
THAT SUPPORT WQED’S PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

SHOP WQED is offering 20% off its entire stock now through June 30, 2011

PITTSBURGH—In 1989 WQED dove into retail sales with two local documentaries available on VHS.

One was Spirit of Pittsburgh and the other was Kennywood Memories, which was produced by a new producer and Pittsburgh native named Rick Sebak. Since 2001, SHOP WQED has been online at wqed.org and now offers more than 200 different items for purchase. From books about local history and Pittsburgh souvenirs, to cookbooks that are part of WQED’s America’s Home Cooking series (distributed to other public television stations nationally) SHOP WQED offers something for anyone who has ever had a connection to the Pittsburgh region.

“When you purchase things from SHOP WQED you help support WQED. And we appreciate that maybe this year more than ever before you are helping keep public television alive in our area,” said Sebak.

Popular items include: Sebak’s Kennywood Memories and Right Beside the River DVDs; the “Yappin’ Yinzer Chipped Ham Sam” doll; the America’s Home Cooking: Comfort Food cookbook (which has sold over 58,000 copies); the Inside the Igloo book about the Pittsburgh Penguins years at the Civic Arena; and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood items.

Customers may purchase SHOP WQED products:

• online by going to www.shopwqed.org;
• toll-free by calling 1-800-274-1307;
• by mailing an order form from the brochure and payment to: SHOP WQED, 4802 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

SHOP WQED also offers its products at over 15 retail locations in western Pennsylvania. VISA, MASTERCARD and DISCOVER credit cards, personal checks and cash are accepted for payment. WQED Members receive 20% off orders regularly when they provide their member number at the time of the sale (this benefit cannot be combined with other discounts or offers) when they call to place an order. New SHOP WQED brochures are issued annually in the fall and may be requested by e-mailing shop@wqed.org.

WQED Pittsburgh, honored with the 2007 and 2006 Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Award for Station Excellence, was founded in 1954 as the nation’s first community-supported broadcaster. The people of WQED create, produce and distribute quality programs, products and services to engage, inform, educate and entertain the public within their community and around the world. WQED Pittsburgh is one of the first broadcasters in the country to be fully high-definition (HD) in its studio and field production capabilities. It is the parent company of WQED-TV (PBS); WQED: The Neighborhood Channel; WQED: The Create Channel; Classical WQED-FM 89.3/Pittsburgh; Classical WQEJ-FM 89.7/Johnstown; local and national television and radio productions; WQED Interactive (www.wqed.org); and The WQED Education Department.
