THE ALLEGHENY RIVER ISLANDS
EXPERIENCE PITTSBURGH’S URBAN OASES ON WQED-TV

PITTSBURGH— Many Pittsburghers have seen them – but very few have been ashore. WQED-TV’s award-winning photojournalist Pierina Morelli had long-wondered about the series of lush islands that dot the lower Allegheny River near Downtown. So, she got in a boat and went exploring. The result is a new episode of EXPERIENCE titled The Allegheny River Islands: Urban Oases. The 30-minute documentary program premieres Monday, December 6, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

EXPERIENCE will explore the history, artifacts, current conservation efforts and native wildlife on the islands that stretch from Downtown to Harmar Township including the Allegheny Islands State Park.

Local viewers may watch encore broadcasts of the program:

• later that day at 10 p.m. on WQED: The Create Channel;
• at midnight on WQED-TV;
• the following day (12/7) at 12:30 p.m. on WQED: The Create Channel;
• on 12/12 at 2:30 p.m. on WQED-TV.

EXPERIENCE programs may be viewed the day after their premiere broadcast online along with other local WQED productions including Horizons, It’s Pittsburgh...& A Lot Of Other Stuff, Pittsburgh 360° and 4802. EXPERIENCE is a new local program airing Mondays at 7:30 p.m. on WQED-TV that showcases locally produced half-hour documentaries.
