CLASSICAL WQED-FM 89.3 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE HELPS GREATER
PITTSBURGH COMMUNITY FOOD BANK

PITTSBURGH- Classical WQED-FM 89.3 members helped support the station and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank in early July. Each membership dollar pledged was matched by a pound of food donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank by both UPMC Health Plan and First Commonwealth Bank. A total of 25,000 pounds of food was donated during the drive. This drive marks the third time Classical WQED-FM 89.3 and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank have teamed-up.

The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank currently serves 120,000 people per month in eleven counties in Classical WQED-FM 89.3’s listening area. In 2013, the Food Bank projects that it will distribute more than 24 million pounds of food and groceries. Currently, the Food Bank has to purchase about 40% of the food it distributes.

“The Food Bank is so very thankful for this partnership with WQED-FM 89.3,” said Lisa Scales, chief executive officer of Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. “The unwavering support of WQED-FM, its listeners and our community partners truly makes a difference in lives of the people we serve. From all of us at Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank – Thank you!”
