CAROL CHANNING APPEARING IN PERSON IN THE WQED STUDIOS
TO HOST BROADCAST OF LEGENDARY PERFORMANCE -
‘ CAROL CHANNING & PEARL BAILEY ON BROADWAY’

PITTSBURGH, PA – WQED Multimedia Pittsburgh will broadcast “Carol Channing and Pearl Bailey on Broadway” Saturday, December 6 at 7 p.m. on WQED tv13. Ms. Channing will appear in person in the WQED studios and host a special night of fundraising for Public Broadcasting. The program event will be released nationally to PBS stations across the country in March 2004.

The show features Carol Channing and Pearl Bailey united for a once in a lifetime concert performed at the Winter Garden Theater on Broadway. The unforgettable evening of song, dance and comedy brings together Broadway’s two favorite Dollies.

“We are proud to present, as part of our American Classics franchise, stars of Broadway here in our Pittsburgh studios,” said Robert Petrilli, WQED Multimedia’s senior vice-president and COO. “It’s an opportunity to share the experience with the local community through the eyes of the star of the show.”

Carol Channing starred in the original Broadway cast of Hello, Dolly! that opened at the St. James Theatre on January 16, 1964. Ms. Channing won a Tony Award for her performance. A few years later, Pearl Bailey played Dolly on that same stage and brought her own magical personality to the role.

In “Carol Channing & Pearl Bailey on Broadway,” the special talents and styles of these stars complement each other perfectly as they share the stage with friendly banter, easy choreography and memorable show tunes originally written for men.

Channing sings “If I Were A Rich Man” from Fiddler On The Roof and Bailey sings “76 Trombones” from The Music Man. They team up for “The Oldest Established (Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York)” from Guys and Dolls and “There Is Nothing Like A Dame” from South Pacific. The highlight of the show is their unforgettable duet of “Hello, Dolly!”
