A Tribute To The Beatles

WQED Presents: Live From Studio A
"A Tribute To The Beatles"

PITTSBURGH, PA – 40 years ago, a group of Mods from Liverpool thought it would be cool if they could get a gig “across the pond.” They had no idea how the world would change because of their music. In tribute, WQED Multimedia will air WQED Presents: Live from Studio A - “A Tribute to the Beatles,” Monday, December 1 at 10 p.m. on WQED tv13. This special edition of the locally produced Live From Studio A features the best voices in the region singing their favorite Beatles tunes, including The Clarks, B.E. Taylor, Hermie Granati, Jeff Jimerson and Buddy Hall.

Fans of “The Clarks” will be thrilled to see the band perform its popular rendition of “Dear Prudence.” Hermie Granati performs his show-stopping version of “Oh Darlin'.” But the man who really steals the show is WQED house band’s very own Pete Hewlett, the host of Live From Studio A, who is known for his uncanny ability to sound just like Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

The show includes 24 Beatles songs spanning the band’s entire career together, from “She Loves You” to “A Day In the Life.” The program is a special WQED Membership edition of Live From Studio A, meaning viewers will have a chance to own a copy of the CD, through their contribution. The CD is recorded, mixed and mastered by audio whiz and Pittsburgher, Dino DeStefino, who engineered 1997’s Grammy winner by the “Count Basie Orchestra with the New York Voices” for “Best Live Recording.”

“All the songs you’ll see on the TV show are featured on the CD,” said Jocelyn Hough, executive producer of local programming for WQED Multimedia. “It’s our way of saying ‘thanks’ to current and new members of WQED.”
