WQED’S LATEST MARATHON IS PROOF THAT
REAL MEN DO COOK!

Back to Index

PITTSBURGH, PA - More and more men are finding their way to the kitchen and liking what they find. With less gear and less time than most sports or hobbies, they can amaze and amuse their family and friends by whipping up delicious dishes and meals.

“Many of the finest cooks in the world are men so there shouldn’t be any stigma about tying on an apron and taking over in the kitchen”, said Chris Fennimore, host of QED Cooks. “And, unlike that painted duck decoy that ends up in a corner of the basement, a platter of duck á l’orange will be the subject of sincere admiration.”

Fennimore has gathered together some of best cooking segments with men from the last 10 years of cooking marathons into a brand new three hour special – “Men Who Cook.” The cooking marathon premieres Saturday, May 7 at 10 a.m. on WQED tv13.

“We’ll be showing by example what the men folk can accomplish in the kitchen,” said Chris. “And we’ll be gathering together a new cookbook of guy-friendly recipes that will be a perfect guidebook for the beginner as well as the accomplished cook.”

From tailgate recipes and hearty soups, stews and chilies, to every night casseroles and crockpot standbys, this book will help each cook add to his repertoire of no-fail crowd pleasers.

Some of the manly recipes featured on the program include Texas Barbeque Brisket, Horseradish Pasta, Southwestern Chili, and Chocolate Hazelnut Biscotti. Special celebrity guest Joe Negri makes Chicken Piccata.

The cookbook features recipes for everything from Firehouse Waffles and Stuffed Peppers to Oven Flame-broiled Chateaubriand on Garlic Toast and Cornish Game Hen Baked in a Salt Crust.

Whether it’s a young man headed off to school or to his first apartment, the newly wed son or son-in law, husband, uncle or recent retiree, this cookbook is sure to become his kitchen bible.
