TO HOST, TELEVISE AND BROADCAST KEYNOTE ADDRESS
SESSION OF COUNTY-WIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY

PITTSBURGH,
PA – WQED Multimedia’s Studio A will host 200-300 teachers
for the Keynote Session of the County-wide Professional Development Day
on October 10, 2005. The televised session will run from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
on WQED tv13 and be broadcast to over 8,300 teachers at sites throughout
Allegheny County. Von Sheppard, Associate Superintendent of the Minneapolis
Public Schools, will give the Keynote Address. A message from the Pennsylvania
Secretary of Education will be included; a question and answer period
will follow the Keynote Address. WQED’s Chris Moore will serve as
host for the session.
After the broadcast, a group of 20-40 teachers will remain at WQED for
one of the 478 workshops offered as part of the conference. WQED’s
Education and Community Resource Center will conduct the workshop, which
will focus on the multimedia capacity of WQED and the resources available
to enhance classroom activities.
The attendees
will tour the station and meet with management, staff and on-air personalities,
Rick Sebak, Jim Cunningham and Chris Fennimore,
who will share their program and production experiences. The group will
also attend a special screening of the Emmy-Award winning Teens OnQ, WQED’s
new career education television series geared to middle and high school
students.
The County-wide
Professional Development Day is part of the “Building
On Student Success” initiative, a plan developed by superintendents
from the 42 Allegheny County suburban school districts. The Allegheny
Unit is facilitating the day. It is the first of three yearly events.
Similar conferences will be held in 2006 and 2007.
