Musical Kids is an initiative to recognize and showcase young local musicians. Here is how events will unfold over the next few months.
Young musicians are invited to enter Musical Kids by submitting their performance recording, entry form and parental consent form by February 22, 2013. Be sure to read the Musical Kids Official Rules first! WQED staff will review all entries to determine a first round of finalists — between 15-20 "Featured Artists."
Next a WQED engineer will make professional video recordings of the chosen Featured Artists' performances. These video recordings will be posted on the WQED web site. The public will be invited to vote for their favorite performer. The voting will take place from March 18 – April 10.
Finally, a panel of judges from Pittsburgh’s classical music scene will choose five "Showcase Artists", and an online Audience Vote will choose a sixth “Showcase Artist”, to perform in a live “Performance in Pittsburgh” program on Friday, May 3, 2013.
Each of the six winners will be presented with a plaque and various gifts (TBD) at an event at their school.
