SPACE WITH SPICE
WINNER | Architectural Residences Under 3,500 Square Feet

Above: The generous work space provides ample room for the couple to cook side-by-side.
Inspiration paved the way for this Mexican War Streets renovation when the owners wanted to create a gathering space for friends and family. The judges thought it was an enviable kitchen. "It's really interesting and would be a great space to have."
Architect Peter Margittai changed the room from bland to spicy by combining cool metal and warm wood for a dramatic contrast. Shelves were installed over aluminum tiles to display colorful bowls and cookbooks, and thoughtful storage was added to keep counters clutter-free.
"It has a big 'wow' factor," the judges agreed. "It's absolutely stunning."

Right: One wall of the contemporary kitchen was covered in Alumillenium aluminum tiles, from countertop to ceiling. Instead of cabinets, uncluttered shelves neatly line the walls.
