NANCY'S FANCY
TEA ROOM
Nancy Koller believes that she was destined to own a tearoom. "I had tea parties when I was little and served tea to invisible guests," the owner of Nancy's Fancy Tea Room says. "Now I at least have real guests to serve."
And Koller's home is full of Victorian whimsy, from the ornate woodwork and lace trimmings, to miniature tea sets she had as a young girl, to the antique hats hanging in the entrance way. "It's a menagerie of old and new," she says. Collections of carnival glass, crystal and teapots line the walls of the two dining rooms in the 100-year-old three-story house that also serves as her residence. Two years ago, she purchased the house and opened up the first floor for tea.
Served family style, her menu includes soup, salad, bread and dessert with some unexpected items, like strawberry rhubarb applesauce, rose-petal cakes and lavender cookies. Nancy is passionate about creating an old-fashioned experience and explains, "These were flavors used in Victorian times, because they used what they had in their garden." Tea is served by reservation only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., plus Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. $12.50/person.
