Pangea off Walnut

May 14th, 2008 · 2 Comments · food for thought

We were lucky enough to have dinner tonight @ the brand new restaurant on Bellefonte Street, “Pangea”…..absolutely wonderful!!!! We had some friend with us from California and they were impressed with the wine list (we had some bottles from the Williamette Valley) We all ordered different tapas and shared a wonderful lamb, bean cassoulet, beef in lettuce leaf, shrimp/w fennel and mini open-faced burgers!!! Then we tried the fish du jour, scallops w/bok choi and filet mignon…..all FABULOUS!!! very unusual combinations of food and flavors…..desserts were creme brule, chocolate fudge terraine and a meyer lemon curd/with lemon soufle’ on top. It was a most memorable meal with very attentive service (we were one of only two other tables, so I think that they need our encouragement while they get started!!!!) and one to look forword to again!!!!

Pangea is super! Their lunch menu is a real hidden gem. Enjoy.

I went back for lunch with my best friend from forever…and we know lunch. It certainly ranks up there with the best in the city. The lunch menu is slightly different than dinner in its offerings, including pastas and paninis. But we love the tapas flight options, and went for the open-faced burger trio (moroccan lamb on a mango sambal, peppered turkey with jack cheese, house ground filet with boursin and heirloom tomato). Portions are like Goldilock’s find–”just right.” My friend had the crostini trio, as keen as mine–and she marveled that the lobster and gulf shrimp salad didn’t slide off of the bread! We found ourselves shoving our favorites at one another, and finally making use of the little plates for sharing…all outstanding, at half the dinner price. A cool respite on a hot afternoon, but in any weather–I predict this is going to be a hot spot in town. Well done.
