Renovation Meets Reincarnation
2007 Superior Interiors

The winners of the 13th annual Superior Interiors Design Awards made their fantasies a reality

By Jennifer Pesci-Kelly

Inspiration is the force behind great works of literature, life-changing inventions and awe-inspiring masterpieces.

For the four architects honored in the 13th annual Superior Interiors Home Design competition, inspiration drove their projects, whether the idea was derived from a particular material, from the flow of light or from the shape of the space.

While each project was tackled with a distinctive style and approach, this year's winning homes shared a common language, which the judges defined as livability, personality and respect for the client's sensibility. We'll look inside four spaces that got a second life - whether that revival came in the guise of a particular room, or a complete overhaul.

Co-sponsored by the Pittsburgh chapters of American Institute of Architects (AIA) and American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), this year's competition was judged by four members of Baltimore-area firms.

Our thanks go to the members of Baltimore chapters of AIA and ASID, who judged the competition with great thoughtfulness and enthusiasm. During the judging, the names of the nominated architects were kept anonymous. We also thank Anne Swager, executive director of AIA Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh magazine's Mary Louise Dattilo for their outstanding help in organizing the competition.
