With its legions of university programs dedicated to medical research, it's no surprise Pittsburgh contains some of the nation's best medical facilities. This commitment to medicine has transpired in the growing number of other health-related businesses, such as spas, salons, yoga studios and gymnasiums.
Aesthetics are also playing an increasingly important role in health and wellness; they not only help shape healthy lifestyles, but they also make taking care of ourselves that much more fun.
For instance, check out the pearl-adorned or violet-framed specs from Eyetique, where events through 2006 help raise funds for UPMC Cancer Center's patient care. Recently, a new line of eyewear by French designer Alain Mikli was unveiled at Eyetique, where there are often trunk shows, contests and other happenings, such as complimentary breakfast from Einstein Bros. Saturday mornings through Sept. 2.
