Pittsburgh is an educational mecca. People travel from across the country and around the globe to attend our well-known educational institutions. With more than 50 colleges and universities in the surrounding area, 43 public school districts and more than 200 regional private schools, Pittsburgh is a great place to live and learn.

For most students, summer signifies a time to relax, but some area high school students prefer the chance to get behind a camera and create a work of art. Through The Media Literacy Youth Program organized by Pittsburgh Filmmakers and Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, students 14-17 have the opportunity to work with professional artists while taking introductory classes in video installation, animation production, experimental video art, and making original music videos. "The program is not about imitating the forms of media we enjoy, but about the opportunity to make more progressive and critically engaged productions," says Teresa Foley, media literacy coordinator of Pittsburgh Filmmakers.

On the following pages, you'll find numerous opportunities for educational possibilities, both for kids and adults.
