Bargains abound when you flash your student ID, and their are some good deals even when you outgrow yours.

A night on the town won't kill your wallet–when the town is Pittsburgh. Bargains abound when you flash your student ID, and there are some good deals even when you outgrow yours. Start with ProArts, the ticketing agent for most smaller not-for-profit organizations and independent artists, 412/394-3353 or www.proartstickets.org. Among the groups and deals available through ProArts are:


Chatham Baroque, 412/365-1867 or www.chathambaroque.org. Chamber music foursome performs mostly in local churches; individual student tickets are generally $12; a season subscription, $40.

Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre, 412/396-6426 or 412/394-3353 or trfn.clpgh.org/pict. Equity company produces modern Irish works and classical playwrights from many countries at the City Theatre, 13th and Bingham streets, South Side. Tickets are $14 for students in advance, $12 at the door.

Quantum Theatre, 412/422-3823 or www.quantumtheatre.org. See edgy theater from around the world in unconventional venues. Student admission is $15.

Unseam'd Shakespeare Co., 412/394-3353 or trfn.clpgh.org/unseamed. Modern reinterpretations of Shakespeare and other classic playwrights are staged in City Theatre's Lester Hamburg Studio Theatre, 13th and Bingham streets, South Side. Student rush tickets ($10) are available 30 minutes before each show. And don't let your student ID collect dust. You'll need it at

The Andy Warhol Museum, 117 Sandusky St., North Shore, 412/237-8300 or www.warhol.org. Students, $4. As part of the Good Fridays program of lectures and special events, admission is free on Fridays, 5-10 p.m.

Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland, 412/622-3131 or www.cmoa.org; www.clpgh.org/cmnh. Full-time students pay $4 for the whole shebang from dinosaurs to video art.

Destinta Theatres at Chartiers Valley, 1025 Washington Pike (Route 50), Collier Township, 412/914-0999. Matinees are $5 every day; admission $8 after 6 p.m., but college students pay $7. Tuesday night admission is $5 for everyone.

Destinta Theatres at Pittsburgh Plaza, 1701 Lincoln Highway (Route 30), North Versailles, 412/824-9200. Matinees are $4.50; after 6 p.m., $7.50, or $6.50 for students. Tuesday discount night is $4.50.

Kennywood Park, 4800 Kennywood Blvd. (Route 837), West Mifflin, 412/461-0500 or www.kennywood.com. Ride-all-day passes are $20.95 Monday through Friday ($25.95 on Saturday and Sunday). Basic admission with student ID is $7.50.

Mattress Factory, 500 Sampsonia Way, North Side, 412/231-3169 or www.mattress.org. Student admission to this installation-art museum is $4. Thursday is free.

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, 1 Schenley Park, Oakland, 412/622-6914 or www.phipps. conservatory.org. Students pay $4.

Pittsburgh Dance Council, 130 Seventh St., downtown, 412/355-0330 or www.dancecouncil.org. Students get a 10 percent discount off the regular $18-$55 prices.

Pittsburgh Filmmakers, 412/681-5449 or www.pghfilmmakers.org. Catch independent and foreign films as well as local, national and international photography at the Harris Theater (809 Liberty Ave., downtown), the Melwood Screening Room (477 Melwood Ave., Oakland) and the Regent Square Theater (1305 Braddock Ave, Edgewood). Student memberships ($20) include five film admissions, five bags of popcorn, and 2-for-1 rentals at Heads Together and Classic Video. Pittsburgh Penguins, Mellon Arena, 66 Mario Lemieux Place, uptown, 412/642-1800 or www.pittsburghpenguins.com. Students can purchase discounted tickets ($25-$80) on game day.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Heinz Hall, Sixth Street and Penn Avenue, downtown, 412/392-4900 or www.pittsburghsymphony.org. Student rush tickets are available two hours before the concert for $12. Various student subscription packages cost about $9 per concert.

US Airways, 800/428-4322 or www.usair.com/shuttle/index.htm. US Air offers a student fare ($90 each way) from LaGuardia to Washington, D.C., or from LaGuardia to Boston when traveling from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or after 7 p.m. No student ID? No problem. There are still some great deals for Pittsburghers of any age.

Dave & Busters, 180 E. Waterfront Drive, West Homestead, 412/462-1500 or www.daveandbusters.com. An arcade for adults with a restaurant, Dave & Busters' weekday happy hour, 4:30-7 p.m., charges half-price for drinks under $3.50.

Denis Theater, 685 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon, 412/343-7300. A good bet for second-run, indie and foreign films is $4 for matinees and all day Tuesday ($6 regular admission).

Frick Art & Historical Center, 7227 Reynolds St., Point Breeze, 412/371-0600 or www.frickart.org. Admission to the grounds and all facilities (except Clayton), is free, as are its First Fridays summer lawn concerts.

Fuel & Fuddle, 214 Oakland Ave., Oakland, 412/682-3473 or www.fuelandfuddle.com. Late at night, 11 p.m.-1 a.m., the menu of giant burgers, wood-fired pizzas, etc. is half-price.

Mad Mex, 370 Atwood St., Oakland, 412/681-5656 or www.pubnetwork .com/madmexo.htm. Late-night specials at this Mexican restaurant include half-off food specials (11 p.m.-1 a.m.) and $5 margaritas (10-11 p.m.).

Manchester Craftsmen's Guild Galleries, 1815 Metropolitan St., North Side, and Downtown Gallery, 800 Penn Ave., downtown, 412/322-1773 or www.manchesterguild.org. It's always free to tour the galleries featuring MCG artists and students.

M Squared, Market Square, downtown, 412/232-0751 or www.marketsquare.org/msquared.cfm. Free outdoor rock concerts (June 2-Sept. 1) run every Friday 6-11 p.m.

Pittsburgh Citiparks' Cinema in the Parks, 412/255-2539orwww.city.pittsburgh. pa.us/parks. See mostly recent movie hits outdoors for free, beginning at dusk: Wednesdays and Sundays on Flagstaff Hill, Schenley Park, Oakland; Tuesdays and Thursday: Riverview Park, North Side.

Pittsburgh Public Theater, 621 Penn Ave., downtown, 412/361-1600 or www.ppt.org. Anyone under 26 and full-time students of any age can purchase $10 tickets: in advance for all shows except Friday and Saturday night, and at the box office on those prime nights.

Sandbar Sandcastle's Night Club, 1000 Sandcastle Drive, Homestead, 412/462-6666 or www.sandcastlewaterpark.com. Every Friday and Saturday night, beginning at 5 p.m., those 21 and older can enjoy volleyball and some hot tub time, and dancing after 10 p.m. Food and drinks are available; admission is $3. Waves Under 21 nights every Sunday (8 p.m.-midnight) include dancing and a pool party for $9.95. (Seasonal: late May to early September.)
